FOOD & GAY STUFF
Ok- there is a lot of good food and gay things to do in Philly. There are many lists that are going to be way more comprehensive and extensive then here. You can work the internet, I trust you. But now I humbly present our philly recommendations for food and gay stuff.
BRUNCH / BREAKFAST
Cafe La Maude | 816 North 4th Street- Northern Liberties
Hands down, our fave brunch. Lebanese. GET THE GREEN SHASHUKA.
Ants Pants Cafe | 2212 South St - South Philly
Australian breakfast. Seriously fresh and delicious. Fantastic
CHEESE!
WHAT: Go on a cheese journey!
Want to buy some cheese? Walk up to the counter & tell them you want to make a cheese plate but donʻt know what you want. And then.... they will take you on a journey of free tastes of cheeses and meats. There is even a "1 cheesemonger per party" sign, because they donʻt rush things.
Recommend pairing with visit to DiBrunoʻs wine shop (3 doors down) to enjoy cheese and wine at the outdoor plaza right there.
ITALIAN
1328 Pine St. - Fiddler Square/ Gayborhood
Italian food so good you are going to slap yourself. Spaghetti a la Vodka. Fall out of your chair good Tiramisu
1234 Locust St. - Heart of the Gayborhood
Little Nonnaʻs is soooo good. Itʻs got vegetarian options and great meat dishes, delicious cocktails and a charming back patio. Some seriously tasty garlic bread. Lesbian owned and operated too!
1313 N Lee St. - Fishtown
A stock image to inspire
OMG. This place is NOT messing around. Delicious pizza, apps, craft cocktails and if youʻre lucky you can sit in one of the booths with a window and watch all the pizzas get made.
GUIDE TO GAYBORHOOD
Pizzeria Cappelli (aka Homo Hut)
209 S 13th St, - Gayborhood
Speaking of pizza, these are hot slices, right where you need them, right when you need them. Best merch a pizza shop could ever have. This is an actual tank top you can buy at this pizza shop.
Frankey Bradleyʻs (21+) | 1320 Chancellor St, - Gayborhood
5 dance floors, go early and catch some shows, food open till 10. A total freakin blast. HUGE. Lots of seats! Lots of fun! Usually a cover after 9 or 10.
Woodyʻs (21+) | 202 S 13th St, - Gayborhood
If you want some fog machine and a light up dance floor. Come here. 4 dancefloors. The line moves fast. Drinks are pricey. Always a cover.
The Bike Stop (21+) | 206 Quince St, - Gayborhood
Your good oleʻ neighborhood leather bar
Tavern on Camac (T.O.V) (21+) | 243 South Camac St. | Gayborhood
Classic gay piano bar with smaller dancefloor above. No cover. A blast. Gets crowded. Specify your alcohol! Just because you are in a piano bar and order a Manhattan donʻt assume itʻll be quality whiskey. Albers made that mistake only once.
Dirty Frankʻs (21+) | 347 S 13th St. - Gayborhood
Dive bar gay bar. Keeps holiday decorations up year round. Pinball in the back. Great place to saddle up, have a drink , put some songs on the jukebox and listen in on other peopleʻs coversations.
Cute diver bar, delicious eats and vegan options, pool tables upstairs.
Philly Aids Thrift | 710 S 5th St, - Gayborhood /South Philly
Really fun thrift store off South Street in a fun part of town. Proceeds go to local organizations involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
CHEESESTEAK,
cuz we gotta!
Pat or Genoʻs- The warring cheesesteaks - Across the street from one another
Genoʻs Steaks- 1219 9th Street
Patʻs King of Steaks- 1237 E Passyunk
Although we are not the biggest cheesesteak fans, these are the two motherships in Philly. Make sure you order then "wit wiz" which means with grilled onion and cheese whiz. Pat & Genoʻs have no vegetarian options.
Our personal fave. cheesesteak in the city is in front of the Home Depotʻs. The truck is called Roccoʻs. It is not easy to get too without a car, but if you want to house the best cheesesteak in Philly, WITH veggie options as well, this is our pick.
